PC Norman Garnham was driving home to Skeeby shortly after finishing his shift when he encountered the suspect who had run away from his home in Richmond after attacking his two sisters. PC Garnham was not aware of this when he pulled over to offer him a lift. The suspect recognised PC Garnham and stabbed him twice leaving him fatally wounded before running off.
