Today we remember Police Constable Patrick Dunne of the Metropolitan Police who was murdered on this day in 1993.
In a gang related attack three gunmen shot and killed a man on Cato Road, Clapham, London.
By pure coincidence, P.C Dunne was in a house nearby dealing with a routine call. On hearing the gunfire, the officer rushed into the street to investigate.
On seeing the unarmed officer one of the gunman opened fire and shot him in his chest, killing him instantly.
Witnesses heard the trio laugh and saw them fire celebratory shots in the air as they walked away.
Patrick who was 44 years of age and married. He had joined the police four years previously.
We unveiled our memorial to P.C Dunne on the 25th June 1996 outside 28 Cato Road, London.
Rest in peace Mr Dunne. Thank you Police Memorial Trust for maintaining his memory and those of all our colleagues lost to violence.
I remember this so clearly, as a probationer with just a year in my night duty was spent on a garden cordon at the scene. Very sad. RIP 💙

Today sees The Police Bravery Awards hosted by the Police Federation of England and Wales.
The officers who have been nominated displayed the very best of the British police service and demonstrate what policing is all about - ordinary people doing extraordinary ordinary deeds.
Our Chair, Mrs. Michael Winner is honoured to be attending the #PoliceBravery awards tonight. She said “It is such a privilege to be in the company of so many heroes. They deserve their special evening, they are the best of the best. Thank you to the Police Federation for hosting the event”
Respect and grateful thanks for being there and helping us, you are more appreciated than any of you will ever know 🥀

Today we remember Police Constable Keith Henry Blakelock QGM, of the Metropolitan Police.
The officer was murdered in 1985 in London whilst protecting London firefighters during a large scale riot.
The officer, his colleagues and firefighters were attacked with such overwhelming violence they were forced to retreat in fear for their lives. As they did they were attacked by a mob armed with machetes, knifes, bricks and paving stones.
Unfortunately as PC Blakelock ran he tripped and fell to the floor. Dozens of rioters then attacked the officer inflicting horrific injuries as he lay helpless on the ground.
Keith’s colleagues bravely went to his assistance and managed to disperse the rioters long enough to recover Keith. He was placed in an ambulance but died on the way to hospital.
Keith was 40 years of age. He left behind his wife and three children.
Police Constable Blakelock was later posthumously awarded the Queen’s Gallantry Medal.
We were honoured to place our memorial to Keith’s service, sacrifice and bravery in November 1986 at the Muswell Hill Roundabout, London.
As long I'm alive, I'll NEVER be against the police or show any sort of animosity in any way : what happened to Officer Blalelock is totally inexcusable.
This still saddens me to this day, a police officer attacked by a mob on British streets, RIP Pc Keith Blakelock. A true hero died defending our liberty. Forgotten by the media but not by the public.
The most horrendous of murders. Thank you for keeping Keith's memory alive. May his memory be a blessing.
Being 10 years old at the time of the riots and living on the estate, I remember this event and the aftermath and it is still with me today and will never go away. This night should never have happened and nobody should have lost their lives R.I.P
Still shocks me as much today as it did that day. RIP Keith, patrol heavens streets 🙏
Such a sad loss. Respect brave officer.
He died in the most awful circumstances, but showed amazing bravery and determination to do his duty as a police officer. An amazing man.
Thank you for your service and shame on those who took your life.
Rest in peace my friend. I think of you as I think of all officers and all forces with great respect. Until the next shift rest easy

Heartbreaking, even all these years later. I only live a few streets away from where he was killed and pass the spot sometimes. One of the most horrific events in recent years. His family will never get over this tragedy 😪x

Today we remember Police Constable David Phillips of the Merseyside Police who was killed on this day in 2015.
P.C Phillips was killed in Wallasey on the Wirral as he was about to deploy a stopping device in front of a stolen vehicle on a duel carriageway.
On seeing the officer the driver deliberately mounted the central reservation area in order to hit the officer.
David was 34 years of age and left behind his wife and two children.
We unveiled our memorial to the officer service and sacrifice on the 12th Ocober 2017 in Hamilton Square Gardens, Birkenhead, Merseyside.
@MerPolChiefCon @Merseyside Police
RIP. A friend of mine from Merpol does great work to ensure Dave will never be forgotten. 🥲👍

Today we remember PC Patrick Dunne,44, of the MPS who was murdered in 1993 as he investigated gunshots. The killer laughed & fired a celebratory shot as he walked away. We unveiled our memorial in June 1996
In reaction to the appalling murder of Sir David Amess MP a commentator on national TV said “No one is expected to risk their lives for the sake of their job”. It’s a sad reality but that is exactly what police officers do every time they go out on patrol. #HonouringThoseWhoServe
The United Kingdom’s National Police Memorial stands on The Mall in London. It was opened by H.M The Queen in 2005 & is maintained by The Police Memorial Trust.
Today the group met both online & in person @PTCentres Harrogate for 1st time since the pandemic. The group exists to engender mutual respect, friendship, understanding, support, & cooperation, but most of all, for the benefit of the UK policing family. #Policecharitiesuk #PCUK2
Honoured to have been invited to join loved ones and colleagues at the 20th anniversary ceremony remembering P.C Malcolm ‘Malc’ Walker. #HonouringThoseWhoServe #PoliceFamily3
Due to the @LondonMarathon taking place this weekend the @UK_NPM is partly surrounded by temporary fencing. Working with @MPSRoyal_Parks & @theroyalparks we have ensured that visitors will still be able access the Memorial from the North side i.e. The Mall #HonouringThoseWhoServe3
