Today we remember Detective Constable Stephen Oake, QGM, of the Greater Manchester Police.
During an operation to arrest a suspected terrorist D.C Oake was stabbed and murdered on this day in 2003.
Knowing full well that other officers had already been stabbed the officer fought to control the offender. D.C Oakes selfless actions prevented the offender from attacking more officers and ensued the offender did not escape.
Stephen was 40 years of age and left a wife and family.
He was posthumously awarded the Queens Gallantry Medal for his bravery.
We were proud to unveil our memorial to his service, bravery and sacrifice in September 2006.

Today we remember service,
heroism and sacrifice of Police Constables Angela Bradley, 24,
Gordon Connolly, 23,
and Colin Morrison, 38
All three officers lost their lives whilst showing incredible bravery during an unsuccessful attempt to save a drowning man off the coast of Blackpool in Lancashire on this day in 1983.
Our thoughts are with the officer’s families, friends and colleagues.
Following this terrible incident it was realised that there was no national Police Roll of Rememberance for those British police officers who had given their lives in the line of duty.
A short time later our sister charity @Police_Memorial was created.
The nation’s Police Roll of Remembrance now contains nearly 5000 names and is proudly displayed by us in the U.K’s National Police Memorial in The Mall in London.
@Lancashire Police Federation ...
Rest In Peace Officers. I remember this incident well even though I was only young. You are not forgotten snd we thank you for your bravery and sacrifice.
Three very brave officers..acting in the highest traditions of the British. Police..I served. In the Cheshire Force for 31 years.proud to have served....
Xxx such a tragic loss, true heroes. May their names and sacrifices inspire us,showing what we are capable of when we are at our best. Selfless. God bless them and all those who love them xxx
I remember that incident so well. To these courageous Officers, and to all the others who have died in the line of duty...R.I.P. 💙💙💙
It is on days like this that I think back to the sad occasions when our thin blue line lost some brave coppers. Only a handful died by pure accident. Many succumbed to evil premediated murder. Then there are those who gave their all to help someone who had been wronged. That leaves those who perished needlessly, going to the assistance of someone who put themselves in danger. A spur of the moment decision that would have a disastrous ending, and sadly, this was exactly that. Brave officers indeed.
I remember it well as I was from Blackpool, a man jumped in after his dog which had been washed in. The police jumped in to save him and it all went tragic. They also didn't have enough lifebuoys along the prom. RIP.
AUTOMATIC LIFE IN PRISON for the murder of our officers and soldiers no matter what colour or religion they are.
So sad that these officers died trying to save lives, they will be missed by their families until they are reunited. R.I.P. you will never be forgotten.
We are so lucky to have Police Officer,s who serve and protect us, whatever the dangers, You will never hear ( That,s not my job) I salute these brave men.
I remember this an absolutely amazing self sacrifice although tragic it was typically old fashioned policing!
Their courage and bravery was beyond measure and must never be forgotten. May they rest in peace in the arms of Angels 💜

Rest in peace my Brothers and Sister. Thank you Police Memorial Trust for keeping them remembered.
I have discovered that my grandfather, who died in service in 1931, is not on the National Roll of Honour. I have been asked to investigate and submit his details, but with the libraries being closed, I cannot check the papers at that time. He died of Mastoids, following a blow to the head with a cosh, when the police raided the railway sidings in Winson Green, following a tip off.
I was 12 and remember the day well. R.I.P all the thin blue line got thinner. 😢😢
They are all so worthy of remembrance. Xx
In the line of duty we always lose are brave officers rest in peace brave men never forgotten 🙏🙏👏👏👍👍
On this the last day of 2020, the year that will be remembered as one of the most difficult and challenging that most of us has ever experienced, please spare a moment to remember all those who died in the terrible pandemic that is Covid-19.
We especially remember the five British police officers who died on duty serving the public.
Their names joined nearly 5000 others in the Police Roll of Honour Trust’s Roll of Rememberance which is held within the United Kingdom’s National Police Memorial in London.
On behalf of our Chair, Mrs. Michael Winner and the members of our Board of Trustees of the Police Memorial Trust may we wish you and your loved ones a healthy and safe New Year in 2021.
Remembering them all with the deepest respect & thanks for all they have achieved. May they R.I.P.

Today we remembered Police Constable Ian Broadhurst of the West Yorkshire Police who was murdered in Leeds on this day 2003.
PC Broadhurst and a colleague were on traffic patrol when they noticed a vehicle parked on Dib Lane, Leeds. The car was displaying false number plates.
Unbeknown to the unarmed officers the male driver was a killer who was wanted for conspiracy to commit murder.
On speaking to the man they decided to arrest him. Without any warning he pulled out a gun and shot both officers.
Constable Broadhurst was shot in the chest and collapsed to the floor. Even though the officer presented no threat whatsoever to his attacker he was callously shot a second time, in the head.
Ian was 34years old and had a young wife.
His colleague although receiving serious gunshot wounds survived.
A third officer who arrived at the scene was also shot but mercifully the bullet struck his police radio, thus saving his life.
We unveiled our memorial to Ian’s service and sacrifice in 2008 at the spot were he died at the junction of Dib Lane and Grange Park Avenue in Leeds.
His name, together with all those officers who have died on this day in history, is displayed in the nation’s official Police Roll of Honour held within the National Police Memorial at The Mall in London.
