PC Dunne was attending a domestic dispute at a house in Cato Road in Clapham when he heard gunshots and left the house to investigate. PC Dunne was in full uniform and wearing a reflective jacket, and as such was easily identifiable as a police officer. He was unarmed. As he emerged from the house to investigate the gunshots he was fatally shot in the chest by one of the men involved. PC Dunne was posthumously awarded the Met’s highest commendation at the Commissioner’s commendation ceremony on 27th November 2007. A specialist crime directorate building in Sutton was also named Patrick Dunne House in his honour.
